Create value with Circularity
Circular Economy
Since 2019, we’ve been working to give new life to products that would otherwise end up in landfills.
We’ve established multiple recycling programs available to both our B2B and B2C customers, which help to revitalize products and create value locally.
Nespresso Recycling Program
Our Nespresso Recycling Program is one of our most popular initiatives. The Nespresso capsules that we collect are sent to Scott Recycling Unit where they are separated into their individual components. The coffee grounds are extracted and used as a natural fertilizer, while the aluminium is recycled and used to create new products. By participating in this program, our partners can help reduce waste and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Key Stats as at 2022:
> 3.5 Million capsules recycled
> over 20 tons of coffee ground turned into compost
Varta Battery Recycling Program
For our Varta Battery Recycling Program, we work with B2B customers to collect their used Varta batteries, which we then recycle in an environmentally responsible manner by our partners, BEM recycling in Mauritius and Chimirec in France.
Batteries contain a variety of toxic materials that can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly. By recycling used batteries through our program, our partners can help reduce the amount of hazardous waste that ends up in landfills. In addition, by reusing the materials from the batteries, we can reduce the need to mine for new materials, which can be both environmentally and financially beneficial.
By participating in this program, our partners can reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Key Stats as at 2022:
> 266 KG recycled
> For each 10 KG collected, we plant an endemic tree in partnership with FORENA-Fondation Ressources et Nature

Sunquick Recycling Program
We also have a Sunquick Recycling Program, which is designed to recycle plastic bottles used to package Sunquick juice. The Sunquick bottles that we collect are sent to recycling facilities, where they are cleaned. We are working with DKD Ltd to process the bottles into small pellets, these pellets are then used to create new products as electric piping. By participating in this program, our partners can contribute to the reduction of plastic waste and the promotion of sustainable manufacturing.
Food Waste Reduction Program
Our Food Waste Reduction Program, launched in March 2020 in partnership with the NGO Foodwise, aims to significantly reduce food waste in our warehouse while helping families in need. Given the challenging economic climate, many families struggle to make ends meet and often face difficult choices, such as whether to buy school supplies or provide a lunch for their kids. By collaborating with Foodwise, we can divert edible food from waste and help families allocate their resources to other essential areas.
To achieve our goals, we have implemented several changes in our processes. We have formed a dedicated team to inspect and clean all products that can be donated, established new protocols to track all potential food waste (including items nearing expiry and those with minor damages), and designated a special area for food donations. Additionally, we are working closely with our retail partners to rescue as much food as possible directly from supermarkets.
Since the launch of our program, we have successfully saved over 22 tons of food (and other non-food items), which translates to approximately 84,000 meals. We have distributed these donations to 69 NGOs, ensuring that they reach those who need them the most.
